Vital Signs

I welcome, all my non-Muslim and Muslim friends alike, to a journey of much maligned and largely misinterpreted religion of mine, misrepresented even by many of my co-religionists. I feel it as a duty to dedicate this part of our homepage to shed some lights on the true teachings of Islam and what it stands for and NO! I am not here to preach but just want to put a few facts straight. While conveying the message of Islam, it is usually not sufficient to highlight only the positive nature of it.
Most non-Muslims are not convinced about the truth of Islam because there are a many questions about Islam at the back of their minds that remain unanswered. You may agree with my contentions about the positive nature of Islam, but, in the same breath, you might say – “Ah! But you are the same Muslims who marry more than one woman. You are the same people who subjugate women by keeping them behind the veil. You are fundamentalists, jihadis, suicidal terrorists, etc.

Political issues aside, the core of the matter is…Muslims believe they have the truth and so do many others. Our studies of Islam and other religions have made plain to us that the difference between one religion and another lies in the diversity of beliefs about that great, unseen reality. While the concept of God may vary from religion to religion, there are no fundamental differences over issues such as justice, fair dealing, mutual esteem and good social relationships. This being so, when people are sincere adherents of their true religion, the question of their coming to conflict with others simply doesn’t arise at all. We are ONE humanity, what is nutritionally best for you is best for me, what is poisonous for you should be poisonous for me…therefore the best life style for you should be the best for me. This was what all the prophets of God had called for, when they were sent to different races and communities at different intervals of time. No true religion talks of compulsion in it’s belief. The parents or preachers of different religions, who are used to the pressure technique at home or in their community, may see nothing unbecoming or inappropriate in such regimentation. Others may say; ‘if this is not a compulsion, what is compulsion?’ “There is no compulsion in religion…”(Qur’an 2:256). Extremity ends up with regretful results. Moderation is the key word. We also believe that all the religions needs to be judged on the basis of their scriptures and not through hearsay or through the actions of politically motivated individuals of today or even kings/dictators of yesteryears.

Real differences amongst people of different faiths only come into fore when concepts of correct human behaviors differ radically from person to person. Some starts believing in exploiting others and hide or justify their cruel actions under the garb of religion, while others believe in coming to the assistance of suffering humanity, forming human shields in war zones and giving charities for no personal gains.

Submission (English equiv. for ‘Islam’) of the human will to the will of God…is what Muslims are supposed to believe in.

Let’s take a look at the Vital Signs of our creator…and make our hearts reflect upon them. Evil prevails over good for majority of the time in man’s life. We all needs to humble ourselves in front of the Almighty and ask HIM to open the doors of light, knowledge and wisdom and get rid of darkness, arrogance and ignorance within us.

“And insult not those, whom they (non-Muslims) worship besides Allah, lest they insult Allah wrongfully, without knowledge. Thus we have made fair seeming to each people their own doings, then to their Lord is their return and He shall then inform them of all that they used to do.” (Quran 6:208)

“Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loves those who are just.” (Quran 60:8)
